Kalbarri - our arrival

Our drive to Kalbarri was an interesting one. Just before we left Chris was hitching the caravan up and found two cracks, both along the welds either side of the tow hitch mounting plate on the caravan, Chris and Kent did some grinding and re-welded both sides. We eventually left at about 11.30am, stopped for supplies and diesel at Three Springs, then again at Geraldton to get some new engine oil for our honda generator (just run it in). Only did a drive through Geraldton as we really needed to keep going after the late start.

The boys watched a movie then eventually fell asleep after eating every snack I had from whole carrots, a packed of cruskets and apples. After Aiden woke from his sleep all he wanted to do was ‘Go home’! I sat in the back and tried to comfort him, as he was continually crying. Once he knew he was going to be able to go for a swim in the pool and play in the play park and go fishing, he was good again. Phew… We arrived at about 4.30pm, the bloke that manages the caravan park, took the keys and insisted to park the van....... a tight spot was an understatement, although we dont have many neighbours and can see the kids play area "Great Spot!".  Pictured is
our first days lovely view in the bay at Kalbarri and so far we have avoided any domestics! However our bike rides with the boys were tough .. trying to drill into them about crossing roads, staying to the inside of the path, as Aiden had a fall and landed on the road. It is busy as it’s school holidays, but the boys are making friends which they tell us about constantly!

We have walked/jogged and the boys have ridden / scootered about 5.5 km today pictured - Aiden & Chris blasting around on the bikes .. Riley not happy), boys swam in the pool (even though I was wearing a jumper) and ran around like crazy at the play park with the other kids for an hour before dinner!! Aiden fell asleep before Riley tonight, but only just. The boys are loving the adventure of taking their torches when we go over for a shower. I take the boys while I leave Chris to clean up! So far, so good.

I must admit I was very nervous about the boys sleeping, but apart from Aiden yelling out in his sleep for me, all is great. Once he hears my voice he is quiet again. He has no idea he is doing it. We are starting at about 6/6.30am … thank goodness it is not 5am.

Tomorrow is fishing… we spent some time setting up the rod and I was showing the boys how to tie fishing knots, they have their lines and they are ready to plunder the ocean............

Three Springs 21st - 27th April

Wow what a week ...

Working up until the day before we were due to leave made for an interesting start. With a few last minute adjustments, making the caravan beds, and putting the finishing touches to the house, cleaning and of course assisting the real-estate agent with potential renters.... it was go go go. With a visit from Dad Somers and the neighbours taking a photo to send us on our way, we hit the road at 1pm. All excited we truly had no idea what to expect. The drive was great as we enjoyed a relaxing trip up to Three Springs. For the boys the most exciting part was driving through Moora in the smoke during the burning off in the neighbouring fields.

The Lane family (Kent, Chris, Kyle, Cassie & Kade) have made the start to our Australia Trip better than we ever imagined. Kent is Bell's cousin and we have been meaning to catch up with Kent & Chris Lane for years on their farm. The boys have been settling well into the new sleep routine, eating whenever we get the chance and just living in the moment.

The weeks adventure including getting to know all about the farm from collecting the eggs, catching chickens (pictured -
Aiden, Cassie, Kyle, Kade & Riley), checking the water troughs, cruising around on the back of the land cruiser checking out the farm, exploring the old and new machinery and toasting marshmallow over the fire. We included a day trip to Dongra and some fishing. Chris & Chris really got into the cooking as we had a different cuisine from a different country every night. Including a local catch from Kent if you know what I mean! baaaaaaa ........
Enjoy our weeks adventure below. (You may need to pause the video at the beginning, let it load, then play it.)

Three Springs is located 313km north of Perth and 173km south east of Geraldton.
